The Every Word Counts identity & website design takes its inspiration from newspapers, placing the emphasis on the copy.

The website is fully responsive and so looks equally good on a tablet... any way up!

The EWC website is fully responsive so it looks and operates equally well on a smartphone.

Above are the words of Geraldine Jones, a copywriter who approached Identity Studio to produce an identity & website for her business.

The identity

Given the nature of Geraldine’s business – Every Word Counts – it was important that the logo did not become heavily overloaded with graphics.

We took our inspiration from serifed fonts as, being considered more legible than sans serif fonts, they were developed and used extensively in books. However, with a contemporary and technical element to Geraldine’s work (she often partakes in SEO copywriting), it was also crucial that the final identity didn’t look fuddy-duddy.

The result was a bold logo in dark grey and shocking pink with a modern serif font, reflecting the copywriter perfectly – a serious, highly qualified person with a friendly approachable manner.

Words can be used to inspire, persuade, inform, educate or even entertain. But you often only have a few seconds to capture the reader’s attention and get your message across, so they have to be good.

…and now the website

Of course we know the importance of words in any promotional campaign. However ‘a picture paints a thousand words’ – as reportedly first used by Frederick R. Barnard, in Printer’s Ink (December, 1921) (source ‘Wiktionary‘).

With that in mind, we created a number of relevant graphical elements for the website and, taking our inspiration from broadsheets, we developed a website that reflected a stylish publication. The 3-column grid structure, provides a beautifully clean layout making it superbly light on the eye.
